Accomplishments
Recently, SVMTB worked with Peninsula Open Space Trust, POST, in the passage of Measure AA, and worked with the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority to pass Measure Q. Both measures improve access to hiking and biking opportunities, and protects and preserves environment. We also participated in the Citizen Advisory Committee and worked with the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROPD) staff to identify 25 of the highest priority projects for Measure AA.
Other accomplishments include:
- Opened Pillar Point Park to Bikes. First San Mateo County Park in decades to allow bikes on trails.
- Working with GGNRA to keep Rancho Corral de Tierra in Moss Beach-Montara open to bikes.
- Served on the trails committee for Sanborn Park in Saratoga, resulting in plans for nearly 20 miles of new bike trails.
- Served on the now defunct San Mateo County Parks Blue Ribbon Commission to plan regional multi-use trails.
- Advocated for and donated over $7000 to open the Skyline Trail in Castle Rock State Park to bikes in Saratoga.
- Redesigned and constructed the Jim Donnelley Trail in Henry Coe State Park.
- Working with MROSD to keep El Corte de Madera Open Space Preserve (ECDM) open despite pressure from Fish and Wildlife Agency, including help with the reroutes of Giant Salamander and Blue Blossom trails
- Constructed the North Leaf Trail in ECDM, over 800 man hours
- Worked with MROSD to build and open the Meadow Trail in Coal Creek Open Space Preserve
- Aided in opening a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail at the north end of Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve
- Worked to open the first 10 miles of SF Watershed trail to mountain bikers, equestrians and hikers
- Constructed and continue to maintain 10 miles of trails at Waterdog Lake Park in Belmont
- Participated in the Arastradero Trails Management Plan in Palo Alto resulting in all trails opened to bikes
- Opened the Braille Trail in Soquel Demonstration Forest
- ROMP Chapter of National Mountain Bike Patrol signed contract to patrol Soquel Demonstration Forest
- Helped open over 10 miles of Almaden Quicksilver Santa Clara County Park trails to shared-use
- Contributed to opening the first bike-legal trail in Ed Levin County Park
- Assisted in opening Grant Ranch County Park to bikes
- Opened and later adopted Table Mountain and Grizzly Flat trails in Upper Stevens Canyon County Park
- Active participation in trail advisory committees for Castle Rock and Henry Coe State parks
